Is it allowed to smoke e-cigarettes onboard?

e-cigarettes are banned on flightsA main benefit of electronic cigarettes is that they can used in places where smoking is banned, like bars, restaurants, offices. But for those who need a regular nicotine fix, the chance to smoke in planes — where stepping outside isn’t an option — is a big problem. You can’t smoke e-cigarettes in airplanes. At least not in planes operated by large American or European carriers. So, the only best solution for smokers in the air is nicotine gum and patches.

The representer of U.S. Department of Transportation says the use of smokeless electronic cigarettes on airplanes is strongly prohibited. E-cigarettes are plastic and metal devices that heat a liquid nicotine solution in a disposable cartridge, creating vapor that the “smoker” inhales. A tiny light on the tip even glows like a real cigarette.
