Virgin Atlantic flight turned back to Heathrow after laser incident

delay compensationA Virgin Atlantic flight heading to New York swung back to London Heathrow Airport after a laser pillar was shone into the cockpit, Virgin Atlantic has said.

The authority said there was a “therapeutic issue” with one of the pilots after the laser hit flight VS025 after take-off at 20:13 GMT on Sunday.

The flight was grounded overnight, and the 252 travelers place up in inns.

Sparkling a laser at a plane can be a criminal offense. There have been no captures, however police are exploring.

‘It won’t be long until someone dies’

In a recording from the cockpit which was distributed on the web, a crew member is heard telling Irish air traffic that the incident took place six to seven miles west of Heathrow.

‘Pilot shot in the eye’

Virgin Atlantic said the flight came back toward the west London airplane terminal as a “safety oriented measure” after the co-pilot reported feeling unwell.

The aircraft apologized to travelers for any impediment created.
