Flights cancelled because of coronavirus

Coronavirus has become a real WorldWideWeb virus infection, looking at how many media including social media writes about it.

Coronavirus is a viral disease with flu-like symptoms like general cold feeling, sore throat, runny nose, headache, muscle and joint pain. More serious complications of coronavirus, as with the flu, are high fever and pneumonia. The last two complications are the ones that can be fatal to people with lower immune systems. Just because a person is infected with coronavirus does not mean that he or she will get pneumonia, or worse, die. A person with a healthy and strong immune system may not be infected with the virus at all. People with lower immune systems, such as toddlers, pregnant women, elderly and people with chronic diseases, must avoid crowded places like fairs and airports, writes ShittyHealth.

These facts have put people rearrange their travel plans. Coronavirus as unpredictable circumstance steals our travelling money with force majeure.

Several travel insurance companies have stated that if the flight is cancelled by the flight operator, the insurance company will not reimburse the costs incurred. In the event of cancellation of a flight by the operator, the passenger must first contact the air carrier itself and claim damages. This is more or less the only way to get any compensation for the damage caused by a coronavirus.

If the hotels are quarantined by the local authorities because of some vacationers being infected by coronavirus and you happen to miss your flight boarding, many insurance providers will not compensate you flight ticket costs. Neither will the airline compensate your missed flight.

To sum up, if the travel disruption is caused directly by restrictions imposed by the local authorities, this is not an insured event. No money return should be expected. If the change in the flight itinerary is the result of a third party decision, such as the cancellation of flights by the airline to the country of destination, the reimbursement should be first seen from the airline.

Some flight and fair cancellations due to coronavirus have already been announced.

Geneva auto show has been cancelled due to coronavirus. People who have planned a whole trip there will get only their fair ticket money back. Probably most insurance companies will not compensate the flight nor the hotel costs.

EasyJet reported cancelling flights to Italy due to Northern-Italy being a coronavirus distribution area and passengers low demand to visiting Italy.
